Manipuri filmmaker returns Padhma shri award

     The National Award winner Manipuri filmmaker Aribam syam Sharma who was awarded fifteen times, announced on Sunday that he is going to return his Padhma Shri award in protest against the Citizenship Amendment bill 2016.
    Padhma Shri award is ever considered as the fourth highest civilian award in the country. Sharma told that thei bill is against the interest of the people of North East and mainly the people of Manipur. He also stated that the people oppose the bill but the central government is determined to pass the bill. He also added that the Padhma Shri award is one of the highest recognitions in India and he thinks that it would be the best way to protest against the bill.
    Amidst a series of protests against the bill in North East states, the bill was passed in Lok sabha on Jan 8th. The bill seeks to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955 for granting Indian Citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Bhuddist,parsis, Jains and Christians who entered our country before Dec31, 2014 from other countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Sharma said that the Manupuris will all be diluted if the bill is passed. He told furiously that the northeast is becoming a dumping ground.
